How to Hold, Park and Transfer Calls on an Avaya 1608 IP Business Telephone

The Avaya 1608 is part of the 1600 series of business telephones available from business phone system manufacturer Avaya. With a host of popular features, if fulfils everyday communications requirements.

Here is a guide to holding, parking and transferring calls on the Avaya 1608…

Holding a Call

One or more calls can be held simultaneously on the Avaya 1608 phone. Whilst on hold, caller will hear hold music or double-beep tones if your phone system does not have hold music installed.

1.  To Put A Call On Hold…

  • Press the HOLD key or the call’s appearance button.
  • Whilst on hold, the call’s appearance button will be highlighted with a flashing green lamp.
  • Use the arrows keys to scroll up and down the display – the held call will be highlighted with a handset icon.

 2.  To Take a Call Off Hold…

Either…

  • Press the call’s appearance button which is indicated by a flashing green light.
  • Use the arrow keys to scroll to the held called indicated with a handset icon and press the PICK UP soft key.

How To Use The “Park” Facility

Parking a call is similar to putting it on hold but with the difference that other users can pick up the parked call.

1.      To Park A Call…

  • During a call, press the telephone icon and then the FEATURES soft key.
  • Use the arrow keys to scroll the menu to the PARK option.
  • Press the SELECT soft key or OK.
  • Choose whether you want the call to be parked on your extension or another by using the arrow keys to select PARK HERE or PARK TO OTHER USER then press SELECT.
  • If parking to another user, input their extension number or press DIR to browse the address book then press DONE.

2.      To Unpark A Call Parked On The System…

  • Press the FEATURES soft key
  • Using the arrow keys, scroll to the PARK option.
  • Press SELECT.
  • Press SELECT again and any parked calls will be listed.
  • Use the arrow keys to scroll through the list of parked calls.
  • To unpark your chosen call, press CPKUP.

3.      To Unpark A Call Parked On Your Extension…

  • If there are calls parked on your phone, they can be viewed and unparked by pressing the STATUS menu soft key.
  • If you have calls on your phone, the PARKS option will be displayed.
  • Press DETAILS to view information.
  • Use the arrow keys to scroll up and down through the list of calls.
  • To unpark your chosen call, press CPKUP.

How To Transfer A Call

On the Avaya 1608 IP phone, a call appearance button must be available to be able to transfer a call.

1.  How To Transfer A Call…

  • After answering the call, press the TRANSFER key and the call is automatically put on hold.
  • Dial the extension number of the person who the call should be passed to or press DIR to browse the address book.
  • To complete the transfer, press TRANSFER or COMPLETE – this can be done while the call is still ringing.
  • If the user doesn’t answer or doesn’t want the call, press the CANCEL soft key.
