Direct Voice and Data have been shortlisted for the Yorkshire Family Business of the Year Awards 2015.
Direct Voice and Data was originally established in 1984 following the deregulation of the telecoms market. The company started life as “Dial-In Telephones” with a shop in Huddersfield town centre.
In 2005, the company was bought by father and son, Kevin Henderson and Dave Henderson. Keen to expand the company’s product range even further, they ensured that strong foundations were in place to deliver a strong IT Support offering to the market and, as such, rebranded and re-launched the company in 2010 as “Direct Voice and Data”.
Today the family run company provides local businesses with complete solutions including business telephone systems, IT solutions, broadband and business mobile phones, plus a range of technical support services including data cabling, electrical contracting, audio-visual equipment and security systems.
The Family Business of the Year Awards were introduced in 2012 to celebrate the family business sector, the contribution that family firms bring to the UK economy and the communities in which they operate.
The awards are organised by Family Business United, the UKs leading magazine and resource centre for the family business sector that was founded and is run by Paul Andrews and his team. “We are delighted to be able to pull together such a vibrant bunch of family businesses, some that have succeeded for numerous generations and continue to thrive, and others that are relatively young but have great values at the heart of what they do.”
Dave Henderson, Managing Director, who was recently awarded Young Business Person of the Year, said: “We have worked really hard over the last nine years since the management buyout and have put structures in place so the family business can now really grow. This year should see our first acquisition of another company to add to our group. Our aim is for a profit increase of 10-fold over the next five years.”
