Do you ever dial numbers beginning 08, 09 or 118?
They’re known as ‘service numbers’. You might use them to contact companies and services over the phone. The cost of calling these numbers varies a lot and so new rules are being introduced to make call charges clearer before you dial.
From 1 July 2015, the industry regulator Ofcom is changing the way these numbers are charged. These changes are designed to make the cost of calls clearer, and are being communicated through a campaign called UK Calling.

One Call – Two Charges
From 1st July, whenever you call a service number from a landline or a mobile, your call will now be be made up of two parts:
The ‘access charge’
The ‘service charge’
0800 and 0808 – Freephone from Mobiles
