Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with more and more people choosing to make the switch to electric as a way of reducing their carbon footprint and saving money on fuel costs.
As a result, there is a growing need for electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country. Workplaces and office blocks are one area that could greatly benefit from the installation of EV chargers.
EV Chargers For Business
Forbusiness owners, investing in electric vehicle infrastructure can be intimidating. An investment is only worthwhile if it’s profitable, sustainable, and advantageous for business. With EV charging, the benefits of this growing technology are already being experienced by thousands of businesses globally.
Here are 5 ways installing EV charging points will benefit your business:
1. Employee Demand
With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, more and more employees are likely to be driving EVs to work.
By installing EV chargers in the workplace, employers can show that they are committed to supporting sustainable transport and meeting the needs of their employees. This will help to create a more positive and supportive work environment, which can lead to increased employee satisfaction and retention.
2. Cost Savings
Electric vehicles are significantly cheaper to run than their petrol or diesel counterparts. By providing employees with the ability to charge their EVs at work, employers will help to reduce the financial burden of owning an electric vehicle.
This will make EVs a more attractive option for employees, who may be more likely to consider making the switch to electric if they know they have access to charging facilities at work.
3. Environmental Benefits
Electric vehicles are much better for the environment than petrol or diesel vehicles. By encouraging employees to switch to electric, workplaces will help to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to the fight against climate change.
This will be an important factor for employees who are environmentally conscious and want to work for an organisation that is committed to sustainability.
4. Competitive Advantage
Installing EV chargers at business premises will help to differentiate a workplace from others, making it an attractive option for potential employees. In a competitive job market, offering facilities such as EV chargers will help to attract and retain staff who are environmentally conscious and want to reduce their carbon footprint.
5. Government Incentives
The UK government has introduced a number of incentives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, including grants for workplace charging infrastructure.
By installing EV chargers in the workplace, employers can take advantage of these incentives and reduce the cost of installing the charging infrastructure.
The UK government currently supports the use of electric and hybrid vehicles via the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) who offer The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS). This is a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of purchase and installation of electric vehicle charging points, for eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations.
The grant covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints (inclusive of VAT). Eligible businesses can receive:
- £350 per socket
- 40 sockets across all sites per applicant – for instance, if you would like to install them in 40 sites, you will have 1 socket available per site
