The government has a range of programmes to help increase broadband speeds and access for the nation. If you run a small to medium-sized business, you may be eligible for a voucher to support the cost of gigabit-capable broadband. Rural premises with broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps can apply for vouchers worth £3,500 for each SME, to support the cost of installing new fast and reliable connections.
This scheme helps small and medium-sized businesses to borrow between £2,000 and up to 25% of their turnover. The maximum loan available is £50,000 and the scheme is open to applications until 31 March 2021.
The government guarantees 100% of the loan and there won’t be any fees or interest to pay for the first 12 months. After 12 months the interest rate will be 2.5% a year.
If you already have a Bounce Back Loan but borrowed less than you were entitled to, you can also request to top up your existing loan to your maximum amount by 31 March 2021.
Reopening for applications in May 2021, Digital Growth Vouchers worth between £2,000 and £12,500 have supported hundreds of small to medium-sized businesses to grow by helping them to improve their digital capabilities. This includes developments such as buying new hardware/software, upgrading digital connectivity/ broadband, developing websites, creating apps, or installing internet telephony.
To be eligible for a Digital Growth Voucher, you must have a minimum of two employees, have been trading for at least 12 months and operate at least 50% in a business to business (B2B) environment.
